Note:
- Better Efficiency and Less Noise: Power supplies are most efficient at 50%–70% load. A 500W unit running at 350W operates in its “sweet spot,” resulting in less heat and lower fan speeds (less noise) compared to a 350W unit running at 100% capacity.
- Component Safety & Reliability: Running a 350W PSU at its maximum limit constantly creates high heat, which can degrade components faster. A 500W unit operates under less stress, offering higher reliability and longevity.
- Upgradability and Headroom: A 500W PSU provides enough power for higher-end graphics cards, extra hard drives, or stronger processors, whereas a 350W unit severely limits future upgrades.
- Handling Power Spikes: Modern CPUs and GPUs can create short power spikes. A 500W PSU can handle these surges without shutting down, while a 350W unit might trigger a protective shutdown.
- Modern Rail Usage: Modern computers rely heavily on the +12V rail. A 500W PSU ensures enough amperage on this rail, whereas older or cheaper 350W units might struggle with modern hardware demands.
